LOW SEASON
FROM JANUARY TO END OF MARCH & JUNE
January till the end of March is the season of rain and cyclones in Madagascar. You should try to avoid coming from mid January till the end of March because most of the hotels situated on the coast are closed and many roads are muddy and impassable but the advantage is the price is really cheap. Just in case of you would really come, GMT+3 advises you to pack: Mosquito repellant; Rain gear; Easy-dry clothes; Rain-appropriate footwear; Germ killers; Waterproof flashlight; Silica gel and Plastic bags. HIGH SEASON
APRIL & MAY, SEPTEMBER & NOVEMBER
Generally, the period between May to October is the best time to travel to Madagascar, with cooler temperatures and little rain. The tourist season begins in April after the cyclones. The rainy season is almost over but some areas are still hard to reach because of the terrible condition of the roads following the rains.
PEAK SEASON
JULY, AUGUST & DECEMBER
July, August and December are the peak season. During those months there are a lot of northern hemisphere tourists because of the summer holidays. If you plan to visit Madagascar during the northern summer, you should book in advance (particularly plane tickets and accommodation in busy beach areas). July and August are the “coolest” months of the year, which is not bad at all in the coastal regions where you can swim without becoming too sun burnt. For nature lovers there is good and bad news: it is the whale season on the east coast, but at the same time many reptiles and small mammals are hibernating. The months from September to December are also a very popular period to visit Madagascar. It is hotter than during the previous months and it does not rain a lot (the rainy season starts in mid January). It is the best time to enjoy beach holidays and to observe the rich wildlife, since chameleons, lizards, snakes and rodents are active again. |
